Explore a variety of medical problems as you discuss the ethical issues involved with medical records and the doctor/patient relationship.

Basics of the Musculoskeletal System: Bones, Joints, and Soft Tissues

Discover the parts of the skeletal and muscular systems as you learn the purpose of bone, the function of a joint and the differences among muscles, ligament and tendons.

90 Minutes

Basics of the Musculoskeletal System: Bones, Joints, and Soft Tissues (Cont’d)

Continue your journey through the human body as you learn the real difference between a sprain and a strain and explore the most common diagnostic studies as you discover how to read x-rays, CT Scans and MRIs.

 

 

PART 3

90 Minutes

The Spine, Nerve Roots and Soft Tissues

The spine is the most common areas injured but trauma to the back is often misunderstood. As you learn the parts of the spine, you will discover the mechanism of injury and what parts of the spine are injured and those that are not. After you learn the soft tissues, purpose of the nerve roots and the various disk abnormalities, you will go into the operating room to learn the real difference among the most common back surgeries. This knowledge will let you better understand the proper value of a back surgery case.

 

 

PART 4

90 Minutes

The Upper and Lower Extremities

Explore the anatomy of the shoulder, hand, and knee. Learn why a shoulder injury keeps people out of work the longest and what part of the rotator cuff in most injured. While the hand consists of 27 bones, you will be able to identify these structures and learn the medical jargon a doctor uses to describe an injury to these bones. The program will end with an examination of the knee as you discover that injuries to the ligaments are usually opposite of where the impact takes place.

Award-Winning Teacher

Hodge has received multiple teaching awards, including the Temple University Great Teacher Award, the Musser Leadership Award in Teaching, the Innovation in Teaching Technology Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award - Best Program category from the International Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA). He has been designated a Master Teacher by the Academy of Legal Studies and his interactive teaching style has been the subject of stories in The New York Times, the Philadelphia Daily News, the Chronicle of Higher Education, National Public Radio and television. He lectures nationally on anatomy to audiences of lawyers, physicians, judges, Social Security Referees and insurance professionals.

Personal Injury Author & Authority

Hodge’s research focus is in medicine and the relationship of trauma to personal injury. He has authored more than 150 articles which have been published in journals such as The Practical Litigator, Modern Medicine, Postgraduate Medicine, The Brief, the Insurance Counsel Journal, the Practical Lawyer, the Uniform Commercial Code Law Journal, The Barrister, and the American Business Law Journal. He has also written several legal texts published by McGraw-Hill and John Wiley and Sons; has co-authored several of the annual supplements to Orthopedic Disability and Expert Testimony; and has written chapters in litigation texts on how to examine and cross-examine the medical expert. His most recent book, Anatomy for Litigators, was published by ALI-ABA, the educational arm of the America Bar Association. This text was the 2007 recipient of the Award for Professional Excellence in Legal Publications.

In addition to his three- and six-hour courses, Hodge also presents one- to three-hour courses on individual body parts and systems:

Hodge received his J.D. from Temple University School of Law, and is an alumnus of the Graduate Legal Studies Division of Temple Law School. He has also received post-graduate mediation training at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University School of Law.
