Russ M. Herman is a senior partner in the New Orleans firm of Herman, Herman & Katz LLP. He is a genuine legend at the bar—an advocate's advocate. He has earned a master's reputation as a dynamic and entertaining CLE speaker.

 

    Herman is a champion from either side of the civil bar. He is a past president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) and the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association; a fellow and director of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers; a diplomate of both the National College of Advocacy and the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys; and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).

    In 2007, Herman was named Lawyer of the Year by Lawyers Weekly USA. He has received the Pursuit of Justice Award from the Tort & Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association and the Leonard Ring Champion of Justice Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award, both from ATLA.   

 

    Herman was a lead negotiator for plaintiffs in the $368 billion proposed settlement with the tobacco industry and was on the private counsel team that recovered $4.6 billion for Louisiana through its attorney general. In addition to his impressive track record for plaintiffs, Herman's body of work includes product liability, environmental, anti trust and Civil RICO defense work.

 

Published Author

 

    Author of numerous articles and papers covering the art of trial advocacy, Herman has been published in such periodicals as The National Business Institute, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. His book, Courtroom Persuasion: Art, Drama & Science, was published by West Group, Clark Boardman & Callaghan and the ATLA Press in 1997. He is also the creator and performer of ATLA's best-selling, six-volume Video Trial Practice Series, Courtroom Persuasion: Art, Drama & Science.
